Craters of the Moon, Idaho

We leave Sun Valley with intentions of driving through to Arco to camp and then coming back to see Craters of the Moon National Monument the next day. While stopping at a roadside viewing area a photographer we meet tells us that we should really stay right at the sight and I'm so glad we did.  There are no services but it is so serene and quiet there that I can see how it got its name.

Pretty tight quarters with all the rock around the campsites.

Part of the crater cone washed down by the lava.

At the top a cinder cone.

It was all pretty surreal. The last eruption occurred around 2000 years ago and another one is expected sometime during the next 1000 years.  It makes you feel pretty small.

We made our way into Pocatello and were able to get the motor on the slide working so Richard won't have to crawl under the trailer to hand crank the slide out each night. It's still not 100% and he still has to set the brakes each time on the slide but it sure is a lot better than it was!  Tonight is a Walmart parking lot night.
