Zion National Park

How many pictures can a person take!  This is some of the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen. My camera cannot do it justice. We are in the park by 9:30 and it's already getting very busy. It's Sunday on their Memorial Day weekend and I would venture to say probably one of the busiest times of the year. The weather is perfect!

The cacti were all in full bloom.

The wildlife don't even flinch when you come near them.

We jump on the shuttle bus that runs regularly through the park. There are 6 stops that carry you up into the canyon. You are not allowed to drive on these roads between April and October but the shuttle service is so efficient that there is no need for your own vehicle. We ride all the way to the end of the line at Temple of Sinawava. It is here that we take the Riverside hike up to the narrows. We don't proceed beyond that as about 75% of the trail takes you into the Virgin River.

Upper Emerald Pool

The hike up to Upper Emerald Pool was about 2 hours there and back. Well worth the trouble but lots of people along the way. The path is rugged but nothing 2 old folks can't do. We come upon a lady that has passed out, face down in the sand. After some strategic first aid from Richard, she is revived and we carry on down the path. She claims that she just laid down to rest but we know different because she was frothing from her mouth and had sand all over her face. I thought she was dead; she looked so grey.

According to our trusty fitbit, we clocked 11.12 miles today. We are both beat and elect to have dinner at the restaurant next to our camp spot. It was a wonderful day.

We are finishing our day sitting by our "campfire". We are not allowed a wood fire but Richard bought a propane fire pit when we were in Osoyoos and this is our first fire with it. It's lovely😍

  1. Nice fire! Good to see you using it! I think we could have wood fires 4 years ago, but propane fire is awesome and non smoky! Also glad you are enjoying Zion. We always worry about advice we give!
