Kanab, Utah

We decided to do a tour of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary today. The tour lasted almost 2 hours and you can see how committed these people are to keeping all pets from being euthanized. They keep about 600 cats and about 450 dogs there not to mention the horses, pigs, bunnies and birds. The facility is 3700 acres and was conceived of in the early 1970's by a handful of animal lovers trying to rescue animals from death and has steadily grown since then.

Kitty looks sad but he has no need to. Their home is beautiful!

You can come up here and volunteer with the animals.

We drove through some of their acreage and discovered some amazing spots.

A rugged off road trek.

They called this an underground lake.

I'm holding it up so Richard can go look inside😱

We took the opportunity to drive the 12 miles off highway 89 to see Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. If you don't own a dune buggy, there's not much else to do there.  The sand is like pink icing sugar..it's so fine.  It's the first day of Memorial Day long weekend so the park is full. It's neat to see all the buggys. We saw a little pink one with a little girl driving it. Good place for camping with kids if you've got the equipment.

Top of the world (or at least the sand dune).

Sifting through the sands of time.
