Huckleberry - Cascade State Park, Donnelley, Idaho

We left Hells Gate SP pretty early this morning with no particular destination in mind. The drive through the mountains was kind of scary at times. We climbed a long way up to arrive at Grangeville where the mountain flattens out to a huge plateau where there are crops of canola and hay. The season must be pretty short as they are about 3400 ft above sea level.

Some of the state parks are not open for the season yet and when we pulled into Ponderosa State Park at McCall that was the case.  We kept on going til we saw a sign to Cascade Lake State Park. As it turns out there are quite a number of campsites along the lake. We chose the first one we came to which was Huckleberry. There were only 3 other campers besides the host. There are no services at this site but it is beautiful and we are about 3 feet from the lake.  Tonight will be our first campfire.

Our view from the campsite.

Gathering some free firewood!

Tamarack needles make some great fire starter.
